About Kathy Birkett
I live in rural Ontario near the resort town of Grand Bend. I was born in nearby Stratford, Ontario, living on a nearby farm until I was 17. Although I am comfortable in either the city or rural setting, I prefer rural and am glad to once again live in the country.
I came to photography through my grandfather. He was a tough and gruff farmer/logger who had a surprising artistic side that mostly came to the fore in his retirement. When I was 12, he showed me how to use his Canon camera (which I now have but don’t use), and gave me suggestions on how to improve. I loved it right from the beginning and a camera has never been far from my hand ever since.
I have worked as a mastering engineer in the music industry for 12 years, administrative assistant, and several years as a graphic designer for a large corporation. I wrote articles and a book until, during a time of outrageous personal stress, my adrenals became depleted in 2001. I now struggle with energy levels and immunity. The print-on-demand market has given me an opportunity that fits with my health issues.
I hope you enjoy my photography and I appreciate your time to check out my work.
